HAPPY HALLOWEEN from Markertek!
A treat for broadcasters, success for NAB and AES in the Big Apple and hitless protection switching from Artel. Coming up next on the Markertek Minute!
Welcome back. It’s time to take care of business, let’s look at this week’s news.
The FCC this week eliminated the broadcast main studio rule. Adopted nearly 80 years ago, the rule currently requires each AM, FM radio or television broadcast station to have a main studio located in or near its local community to facilitate input from community members and the station’s participation in community activities. According to the Commission, requiring broadcasters to maintain a main studio is outdated as community members can interact directly through alternative means such as e-mail, social media, or telephone and the elimination should produce substantial cost-saving benefits for broadcasters that can then be directed toward increased services for consumers.
NAB NY 2017 wrapped up last week and was a big success. Sharing the Javits convention center with the AES NY Show, attendees from both the audio and video industries were treated to the latest tech from the biggest names in the business. Markertek was there too showing a live architecture demonstration of SMPTE 2110 switching and SMPTE 2022-6 IP Transport powered by Embrionix IP solutions. And in case you didn’t make it to the show, the Markertek News Team was there as well getting the scoop on all that was new. Check it all out at youtube.com/markertek
While being hitless isn’t a path to success for baseball teams (or aspiring rock stars), hitless signals are another thing entirely. Smooth, uninterrupted video and audio streams without dropouts or glitches provide the best possible viewing and listening experiences and that’s where our product of the week comes in. The SMART Media Delivery Platform from Artel is a four-channel auto-sense 3G/HD/SD-SDI over-IP multifunction gateway with an integrated nonblocking Layer 2/3 switch. The SMART Platform has been designed to attach seamlessly to the IP network without the need for external network elements and supports SMPTE ST 2022-7 hitless protection switching. The flexibility in function capabilities, along with greater port density, drastically reduces power consumption, reduces size and cost, and allows for a seamless transition as the end user’s network evolves. The SMART Delivery Platform from Artel is a 2017 IABM Design & Innovation Award winner that will be available soon right here at Markertek.
That’s all the time we have for today. I’m Elvi…Byron Frayne and we’ll see you the next time on the Markertek Minute.
